JESS CURTIS – Designer
Jess trained at the Motley theatre design course. Her recent theatre
work includes: four plays for the Peter Gill Season in the Sheffield
Crucible Studio; The Wizard of Oz (West Yorkshire Playhouse);
Dangerous Corner (West Yorkshire Playhouse and Garrick Theatre);
Hysteria and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice (Salisbury
Playhouse); Sugar Sugar (Bush Theatre); A Winter's Tale
(National Theatre Studio); Second to Last in the Sack Race,
Blue Remembered Hills, Once a Catholic and The
Duchess of Malfi (New Victoria Theatre, Newcastle under Lyme);
Dreams from a Summerhouse and A Clandestine Marriage
(Watermill Theatre); Local Boy (Hampstead Theatre); Arms
and the Man (Exeter and The Mercury Theatre, Colchester); 218:Underground
(National Youth Theatre); and Roberto Zucco (Guildhall School
of Music and Drama). Opera work includes: Bastien and Bastienne
and Macbeth (Nor Jyske Opera); Orpheus in the Underworld

SVEN ORTEL – Lighting Designer
Sven studied Lighting Design at Rose Bruford College, London. Previously
he worked as a movie electrician, light jockey and lighting designer
in his hometown of Cologne, Germany. Since leaving Germany in 1999,
Sven has designed for various performance styles and genres, including
dance, installation art, architecture and theatre. Recent lighting designs
include: multimedia project Each and Every Inch (with Cathy
Boyd, for Theatre Cryptic at Usine C, Montreal); and The Seven Deadly
Sins of the Bourgeoisie (dir. Mehmet Ergen, Arcola Theatre). Sven's
recent work with projection technology includes: realisation and editing
of video imagery for The Powerbook (Jeanette Winterson, dir.
Deborah Warner), The Coast of Utopia (Tom Stoppard, dir. Trevor
Nunn) and Jerry Springer – The Opera (all Royal National
Theatre); and Terry Johnson's Hitchcock Blonde (Royal Court
and Lyric Theatre). Current projects include: co-designing Philip Pullman's
His Dark Materials (dir. Nicholas Hytner, Royal National Theatre);
video realisation for The Powerbook (European tour); designing
video for a double bill at Glyndebourne; and filming a short film about
Tommy Cooper for the BBC. [top]
CAROLYN DOWNING – Sound Designer
Carolyn graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2002
with a first class honours degree. Her work there included various styles
of production, including puppetry, physical and non-text based theatre.
Since graduating, she has been working at the Phoenix Theatre as no.
2 sound operator on Blood Brothers. Other credits include:
Moonshed (Royal Exchange Theatre Company, Manchester); The
Watery Part of the World (Sound And Fury); This Way Up
(national tour); Heavenly Hades (Red Circle Theatre Company,
based in Japan); Mongoose (Southwark Playhouse); Small
World (Sue Lee and Kosta Andreas Theatre Company, touring production);
Habitats (Gate Theatre); The Visitor (MAXIS Sound
Art Festival, Sheffield); and a short animation film, Robot 27
(Bournemouth University). [top]
CLAIRE RUSS – Choreographer
Claire graduated from the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance and formed
the Claire Russ Ensemble in 1990. In 1993 the Ensemble was selected
by The Place Theatre London to represent Britain on a European tour
of work by emerging artists. Subsequent works include: Dangerous
When Wet (1994); Sweet Boys (1996); Gourmet (1998);
[B&B]4 (1999/2000); VeilSAFE (Year of the Artist
Award, 2000); TUESDAY (dance film, dir. Moritz Baumann, 2001);
and CODE (Richmond Festival 2001). Film credits include: award
winning Candy (dir. Tony Fabian); and Red Peppers
(dir. Dominique Santana, assisting Stuart Hopps). Choreography for theatre
includes: Voyage in the Dark (Young Vic), Sweet Dreams
(Chelsea Centre, both for Sphynx Theatre); and Cherished Disappointments
in Love (assistant director, Soho Theatre). [top]
MATTHEW DARBY – Production Manager

DAVID WM. PALMER – Stage Manager
David trained on the Diploma in Stage Management course at ALRA. He
was production manager for Dangerous Liaisons and Love
is a Game of Chance (Compagnie Sublime); technical director of
OVO Productions' award winning Romeo & Juliet; stage manager
of The Stoning and Summer (Hidden Plot Productions);
and company manager of I am Star Trek (Skullduggery). David
is currently working on Bluebeard's Wives (S.P.I.D.); Boxed
Off (Edinburgh Fringe); and for Act Now School of Performing Arts.
David previously had careers as a web programmer, a multimedia artist,
an optician’s assistant, a physicist, a philosopher & historian
of science, a barman and a bookseller. [top]
